would solar be ok?

A solar system would not hold enough energy to power a flood light for any length of time. An average flood light bulb uses about 75 watts of energy. Unless you don't care about cost, this option is out. The solar power setup would cost hundreds of dollars.

Go with a normal halogen flood light with motion detector.
