The Benefits Of Outdoor Motion Sensor Lighting

Outdoor motion sensor lighting can bring great peace of mind in many ways to a home. If you come home after dark from a long day at work, you will find outdoor lighting helpful when searching for keys and trying to get the door unlocked. Motion sensor lighting is activated when the sensor detects movement, usually from up to eight feet away. This will turn on the bright security light beam for a certain time allotment that is usually adjustable according to your personal desires, but from about thirty seconds to ten minutes. If your motion sensor lighting uses LED lights, it will usually stay on for just about thirty seconds to conserve battery power. While LED lighting is much brighter, you may choose an option that can be adjusted to stay on for longer periods of time.

Most motion sensor lighting systems have a 180 degree 30 foot range combined with one or two brightness levels. There are also motion sensor lights which feature dusk to dawn modes which will allow them to automatically come on at night and shut off with the first break of morning light.

Most battery operated lighting systems will last for about a year. With this option you will not need to worry with wiring or cords, but the batteries will need to be replaced after time.

Motion sensor lighting can be used anywhere around the home where you desire a little extra illumination. It is a good idea to place them around your doors so that they will be useful to you when entering and leaving your home. You may also need them to light the stairs, deck, gate, and other areas.

There are primarily two different types of motion sensor lighting detection systems: active and passive. Passive detection uses the temperature of a human body to detect an object. The placement of this form of detection system is critical for their effectiveness. If it is placed to close to a heat source, it will be less sensitive to other heat sources and make it less functional.

Active sensors are operated by radar signal or ultrasonic wave patterns. When a break in the light pattern occurs, this triggers the sensor to turn on the light. These types of lighting detection systems tend to be more expensive and are primarily used for very large homes and businesses whose budget can accommodate.

There are also other forms of motion sensors: those controlled by a remote, those powered by solar energy, and dual flood lighting sensors. Remote controlled sensors add convenience to a normal motion sensor lighting form. This allows you to control the features and setting from the comfort of your home. Solar Energy sensors will save on your energy bill, and you can also choose one with a backup battery installed. A dual flood lighting system will light up an entire area with a bright flood light in case of an emergency situation.

Motion sensor lighting will eliminate the need to remember to turn on outdoor lighting every evening at dusk. They are available in low cost packages that can also be installed with little know how. No intruder will be able to pass by your home unnoticed when you have a form of motion sensor lighting installed.
