motion sensor security

The brightest lights motion sensor security at home?

I want to buy a motion activated security light installed above the door of my garage. What are the brightest lights available, halogen? Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand of high quality motion sensor security lighting? Thank you. This seems to be a good option for me http://www.steinel.net/products/sensors/halogenflood.cfm

The problem with "Metal halide" bulbs that last 15 to 20 minutes to reach as bright as they will receive. Another disadvantage with light bulbs when the lights if the power is going to require another 20 minutes for light to even start going again. There are two kinds of halogen bulbs, the "light of flooding "and" spot light ". A flood light spreads light evenly over an area (better for a large yard, garage, etc.), and a spot light will direct most of their light in a given area (better for a small yard, garage, etc..) If you want to stay in constant light, I would recommend a metal halide (provided there is this purple tint to it), but if you want no matter what, again and again when something trips the sensor, I would go with halogen.

Security Basics Alarm System

Security alarm system is very important. It gives you peace of mind against theft. Learn more about this important household device.

Security alarm system is very important. They keep us safe from theft or attempted burglary. A security alarm when it has activated a sensory device that sounds off when there is a forced entry. The siren is strong enough to be heard throughout the neighborhood. It will scare the intruders and leave your home immediately.

A security alarm system must have a combination of contact should be conducted both on the doors and windows. It should be a motion of censure. Beware of the motion sensor light, since they could also detect the residents of the house.

His whole point of potential outside the entrance, must be in contact, as this sense, opening the door. If the door is open, it will sound like an alarm that someone opened the door. Glass break sensor should also be available and highly recommended.

Here are some basic elements of a standard home security should have. The first is a control panel. This is the termination of system wiring. This is also where the backup battery. If your system security alarm system is controlled, that is connected to the phone.

The keyboard is used to assemble and disarm the system. It should be available in the model warning that they will receive. The siren makes loud sounds. It's good to have an alarm with a choice of siren.

The inside of a motion detector is important. A good motion detector has several levels of detection. Could be longer to detect only human beings. When a mouse or other pets is perceived, not sound the alarm. This reduces the incidence of false alarms.

Get an alarm with a door and window detector. This sounds the alarm when the door and windows forced open.

A central monitoring station is a basic feature. If the system is monitored while the alarm is triggered, the panel of control sending message to the central monitoring station. This station is open every minute of the day. Usually has a monthly fee for their services. After contact with the owner, who contacts automically police, medical or fire department.

You can also try install additional features like a glass break detector, smoke detector, under carpets rugs "pressure, panic buttons, screens alarm for windows, and closed circuit TV for monitoring and recording in and out of the house.

The costs of security alarm models are varied. But if not have the budget for that system, closure of a company that can give this to you for free. Some companies offer these systems for free

A system control functions like security system that always feels something. It gives homeowners less than a minute to deactivate the system to not create false alarms. Sent messages over telephone lines to the company that controls whether or not turned off immediately. It is understood that the cause of the alarm is valid when not turned off at once.

The monitoring company then verifies the alarm and if they receive no response, they call the police. The police then answer the call.

Alarm system has no control over the site and / or blinking lights. Then the neighbors would call the police. In a system without control, it is best to combine lights and alarms. It should be located in places accessible as possible.

Here are some guidelines on choosing the right alarm company. Always it is good to ask for recommendations. The reliable companies are sought after by many customers. That should be a good sign.

See how quickly the effectiveness of the system can be installed. Determine how quickly the company responds to requests for services after installation. Ask about warranties, qualification screening workers of the company and the response time of authorities when an alarm sounds off.

Finally, compare prices with the detection coverage.

Sierra Light? Take a pass.

by Bullseye from on 2010-08-29
The light was apparently either a returned of damaged and repaired item.I am disappointed that an Amazon seller would try to sell a used item.It had scratches on it and the flip-top feature would not hold the light part up, when the main bdy of the thing was vertical. Maybe that's why it was returned in the first place. So, I wrapped a bit of wire around the hinge point and got it to stay in the right position. I figured the scratches won't bother me.It has a weak sensor that will only activate the light if directly in front of it with a range of approx. 6 feet. Weak light too. Won't light up a very large area.It does not have a daytime "off" function, which means even when it's light out, it will turn on.Anyway, not worth sending back. It's junk and don't waste your money.

Motion Sensor Light is a bust

by Bama Jim 1958 from Morris, Alabama, US of A on 2010-07-22
So far, hands down this is the worst item I've bought from Amazon. The light this thing emits is very dim, on a REALLY dark night it does help some, but not nearly enough. The lid doesn't stay where you put it, the mounting holes are on the large part, and there is no way to tighten the face part so it falls down over the motion sensor, making it useless. If you put it the way the picture shows, it falls... if I installed it so it's stright up, it stays, but the light shines AT you, instead of on the stairs where I need it, and in the dark, the LAST thing you need is light in your eyes, even as weak as these bulbs are. So on a scale of 1-10, you get a 1 for this one Sierra. Love to have my money back on this one.Jim C. Alabama

Ok product.

by Thomas C. Lee from Los Angeles, CA USA on 2010-06-23
Now the only problem I have is that it lights up during the daytime too when someone walk by. So it waste the battery power too.

Bad product! Stay away

by Branko Zabala from on 2010-04-14
I bought this for my entry door. It simply doesn't work or they probably sent me a defective one an it's too much hassle to return it. The motion sensor wouldn't detect a truck passing by. I tried many things, new batteries, daylight, no light, and it doesn't work. It turns off and stays off forever.

Great Product

by C. J. Broome from Forked River, NJ on 2010-04-07
For the application, I think this is great. I use it in my laundry room so when I walk through to the garage, it lights up the path just enough to see without turning on the flourescent lights. I had it about 3 months now and works great. I like that it shuts off so fast after not detecting motion to conserve on the batteries. I estimate the batteries will last about a year, we'll see.Chris

Good but not great

by MWLX from Northern California, USA on 2010-09-01
From a motion-sensor standpoint, it works as described. From a brightness standpoint, it's not all that bright. I use it in a small closet, and it's about half as bright as the 15-watt fluorescent tube I had there before.

No daylight "off".

by James D. Hartig from Adams WI., USA on 2010-08-15
In the description, it states the sensor has daylight "off". It doesn't, so it goes on during daylight(or having lights on). This will drain the batteries faster. It does serve my purpose anyway.

Safety on stairs

by Kibbitzmom from St. Louis, MO on 2010-08-08
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1L9SCFQ4QW5H3 These are exactly what we were looking for. Our basement stairs are not well-lighted. We could hire someone to put in an electric light, because we aren't handy that way. Or we could put in battery operated lights, but would have to turn them off and on as needed. But motion sensor lights come on only when needed and turn off when they aren't needed. They are just perfect and give plenty of light to this dark area. The video shows how they work without any basement lights on.

NO DAYLIGHT OFF FUNCTION!

by David C. Franklin from Sonoma County, CA on 2010-08-06
I bought 6 of these to light up the outdoor stairs leading up to my hillside home. Unfortunately, unlike what the product description suggests, there is NO DAYLIGHT OFF function! The ONLY way to turn this off is to remove it from where you have it mounted, because the only (manual) off switch is on the BACK of the unit! When you have this installed on a wall, or a post, access to the switch will be entirely blocked!Since I frequently travel up and down my stairs where I mounted the lights, it is silly, wasteful of energy, and annoying to have these lights popping on all day long in broad daylight.Other than the misleading product description, and the very poor placement of the switch, I would say that the device DOES put out a decent amount of light. If only they would have added a photo sensor, this would actually be a useful product!NOTE: Of the 6 of these that I ordered, 1 arrived with a small defect. (the motion sensor cover was loose and pushed back inside the unit) I have since returned all 6 of these. And now the search continues for an AFFORDABLE product just like this, but WITH an AUTOMATIC daylight off sensor!

not enough light

by cara from on 2010-07-30
it works really well and seems to have good battery lifebut it doesn't produce nearly enough light. I still need to buy a second one to light up my closet.

Does not work well. When it does work, long delay. Replaced it with a remote light switch.

Don't buy it unless you can conveniently return it

by D Bollman from on 2010-08-25
Worked for one day. I used it with a CFL and it seemed to work for a while now it just flickers the CFL and won't turn on an incandescent at all. As others have said it requires some light to be present for the motion sensor to work.

Worked for about 5 minutes

by Baroke from on 2010-08-25
Was great for about 5 minutes until it stopped working. Okay, maybe it was two days. It definitely wasn't more than that. I'm still in denial that I paid money for this thing so it's a paperweight in my office.

Not so good

Bought two, only one worked. The one that works does it anytime, day or night, it's hypersensitive.

Doesn't work

by Hirameagle from Georgia on 2010-08-31
This little device would be GREAT if they worked, but I've had two and neither works correctly! The first one ate the batteries...new Duracells in way less than a week. I tried to buy a DC converter, but there are no specs given for the converter.....it's voltage is shown, but not how many amps and the Radio Shack person said if I picked one with too much amperage, it wold fry the board in the device. Soooo, I sent that one back and got another one. This one doesn't seem to deplete the batteries so fast, but it's completely unreliable. I had the transmitter placed on a tree about 200 +/- feet from the receiver, inside a little bird house looking cover to protect it from rain and sun, etc. It seemed to work at first, but within a day or less it would alarm sometime and not other times. I thought it was possibly too far from the house/receiver, so I moved it closer...maybe 150 feet from the receiver and not much change. Then I moved the receiver upstairs and put it in the window looking right at the transmitter, but still doesn't work most of the time. The garbage truck did set it off a few days ago and a few nights back it went off about 4:00AM. Never saw anything....probably deer walked in front of it.Can't say the one you buy won't work, but I haven't had good luck at all and I wish they would work, because it's just what we need with a long, rural type driveway!!!

Good alarm for the money!

by Donald Kraemer from Temple, NH on 2010-08-30
I was looking for an inexpensive way to alert me when someone comes up our driveway. This was the solution! It has been up for a month and worked well. Although it does tell me when a squirrel is on the tree, it does its job well. I would suggest mounting where squirrels don't play.

Do not waste you money.

by Annie Music from Georgia on 2010-08-27
Outdoor sensor only worked when cars were coming to the house, never leaving. Indoor sensor quit working completely after only 1 week. Terrible product.

Buy a Chihuahua

by Noel from SouthTexas on 2010-08-27
Folks, like myself, might buy this because of the cheap price and in hopes that it will work. The ten dollar price PLUS free shipping should have been the tip off I failed to see. Put this on my covered front porch...all went well. The second day it continued to send false alarms. Could not make it stop. No bug on lens. No moving shrubs or trees. I see from the reviews that some are happy with this so it might just be a quality control issue and I received a bad one that slipped through. Good luck.

Manual override turns light off or on with existing indoor wall switch. Allows light to stay on continuously all night when needed. Up to 70' range varies with surrounding temperature. Uses two 150 watt quartz bulbs. Includes mounting hardware.

Heath Zenith's SL-5512 bundles a motion sensor and a two-light halogen floodlight in a single package, but with a lot of extra features you don't see in similar setups.Unlike most motion-activated security lights, this one features "pulse count" technology that reduces the number of times that lamps are triggered due to wind and rain. In addition, the "Dual Brite" feature allows you to use it for low-level accent lighting in addition to the full-light effect you get with motion-activation (an included timer allows you to set low-light mode for three hours, six hours, or dusk to dawn-an automatic photocell deactivates the unit in daylight). The unit also includes a selectable timer that lets you set the amount of time the lights stay on after motion stops. Alternatively, it includes a manual override that lets you turn the light on and off at will via an existing indoor switch. The sensor has a range of up to 70 feet and detects motion in a wide 240-degree range with a maximum 21,000-square-foot detection zone. The detection range is adjustable, too, so you can make sure the floodlights don't go on every time a car drives by.For the same floodlight in a white finish, see Heath Zenith product #SL-5512-WH-A. Accepts halogen bulbs of up to 300 watts (included).--Josh DettweilerWhat's in the BoxLamp holders, light control, two halogen bulbs, hardware kit (plastic hanger, mounting bolt, rubber plug, gasket, mounting strap, three wire connectors, six mounting screws, light shield)

Awesome Flood!

by kamiraa from on 2010-08-23
This thing rocks, its very simple to install (3 wires) and one mount. After putting it into test mode and setting up the motion sensors range and where it was pointed I was able to have it go off instantly anytime an object or person stepped within my driveway. The lights are super bright, and light up the whole driveway. You can set the light to stay on for 1, 5, 25 minutes. I have mine set to one minute. ALSO, you can set this light up into a manual mode.I wired in a light switch, and by toggling it I can go between auto, and manual mode on this light for different situations.Overall great purchase, great price. 5 stars. Buy it!

Works Perfectly, looks good

by William J. Moyer from Pensacola, Fl, USA on 2010-08-05
I got this to replace a non-Zenith motion sensor light, which was more expensive, but which was made of plastic that cracked after a few years in the Florida sun. I based my purchase on other reviewers and wasn't disappointed. It was easy to install, worked perfectly as soon as it was installed. I like the many features it has: two-tier lighting; dusk-to-dawn option and its sturdy metal housing. I couldn't think of a reason to rate this item less than five stars. Good price, free shipping; thanks again Amazon!

Works Fine

by Dr Phill from Philly, PA on 2010-08-04
I got one of these installed at my home a couple of months ago. I didn't trust myself with the circuitry on this one, I just have below average skills in this area I believe.I have it set at high sensitivity, but on for only 1 minute. There are instances when a passing car would turn this on, but that doesn't bother me because it's pretty dark normally where it's installed (side of my home with a large yard).I am happy with the brightness as well. Goes beyond the driveway to my yard area.I look at these motion sensors as providing convenience and security. Security from the perspective of a first line of defense against any potential intruders. The packaging was fine too. I didn't suffer from any bad bulbs like another poster.I am happy so far with the performance. It hasn't experienced snow or too much rain yet, and I haven't yet owned it for a long enough time to comment on longevity. Hence, I am withholding one star from a perfect score. I have no negatives to report though.I will most likely buy some more eventually.

Light works well, bulbs were bad

by S Mac from Dallas, Tx on 2010-07-10
I replaced four outdoor lights with two light units. Two units (four lights) came with bad bulbs. Disappointing that so many bulbs were either broken during shipping or defective.Lights work well. Dusk to dawn setting works well. These lights allow for bulb access from the front too, instead of the back like some lights. Makes screw driver access much easier and comes in really handy with so many bad bulbs. In summary - I like the lights, would order more, but would also order extra bulbs at the same time.

Excellant product for specific need

by R. Beekman from Valencia, CA USA on 2010-07-12
I purchased this light as a replacement for exactly the same model which lasted over 20 years. It withstood heat and cold and earthquakes. The electronic motion sensor died on the original and parts were not available from the manufacturer so I purchased a new one. I believe that I got my moneys worth. The various settings make it a versatile security light.

Motion light

We wanted a motion light that did not look like a lantern. This look was ok and we wanted bronze, but when we got these they were more of a gray color, NOT bronze. I sent these back and ordered more expensive motion lights that are still on back order until mid July! oh well, if that's the least of my problems, I guess I'm doing ok. Excellent product

by Mrs. K from Milton, FL, US on 2010-04-14
This motion sensor light was an ideal purchase for me. One of the main reasons I selected this product (besides the complimentary reviews I read about it before making my own order) was its unobtrusive low-profile dimensions. The location on my home where I installed the light was adjacent to an exterior door from the dining room out on to the raised deck we have in the backyard. The door swings open to an exterior brick wall of the house, and there was a light there that was too big for that location - it obstructed too much of the swing of the door when trying to exit the house that way. This light is perfect for that reason alone. It's small enough to let the door swing properly. In its function the light has performed flawlessly. It comes on automatically at dusk, and turns itself off when daylight sun reaches adequate intensity. The low-level light function works perfectly. The light is manufactured very nicely. It looks appropriate on a nice home. The installation instructions are easy to follow - according to my son - and it took about 30 minutes of unhurried work to put the light in place. There are screws and mounting brackets included, of course, but my son opted to go the local hardware store to pick up corrosion-resistant stainless steel screws to mount the lighting fixture. The screws off the old light had been in place for about 17 years and had rusted to the point that there almost was not enough "head" left on the screws to give the screwdriver enough purchase in the slots to back the screws out. You folks might want to consider getting better screws for that reason. My son also wore clean nitrile gloves when assembling and installing the light. This helps keep the polished reflector free from dirty smudges from fingerprints when assembling the light. The quartz-halogen bulb is not to be touched by bare fingers as well so using the nitrile gloves is a very good idea. All in all, I highly recommend this motion sensor light.

Not the best as a security light

by Kahaluu from on 2010-08-30
This would light a doorway while you are in it, but the light only stays on a few seconds.

Works well

by RivetChic from Los Angeles, CA on 2010-08-16
I bought this for the side yard so that I can see when I take out the recyclables and trash after dark. It was simple to install and works well, It's not as bright and doesn't have the range that some of the more expensive $90 led motion lights I've purchased, but it lights up the side yard area well. If you are trying to light up a larger area (such as a back yard) I'd look for the more expensive ones with the two lights you can mount on the corner. I'm happy with the purchase for the price I paid. This would also work well as a patio or porch light so you can see to unlock the door.

Great light

I needed light at a remote location but did not want to run an electric line. Put this light up and it workes fine. Gives plenty of light.

Better than expected

by D. M. Baringer from on 2010-05-28
I am gone for several hours at a time, and I did't want to waste electricity by leaving the outside light on. This little light is perfect for my use. When I pull in the car activates the motion sensor and the light is bright enough for me to see my way into the house. Two of my neighbors came over and inspected it for their own property. This light is a little pricey but with the money I save on electric, it's worth it.

good buy for money

I bought one for the back entrance way and it is quite satisfactory. Easy to install, quite sensitive, keeps its charge even in the dark Maine winters. Am planning to buy another for boat dock.

Cooper/Regent outdoor motion sencor light

by Cara K. Smith from Jackson, GA on 2009-04-16
We had purchased Cooper/Regent outdoor lights from Lowe's . When we needed to replace one of the lights-we could not fine Cooper so we purchased another light. You're not gonna believe this but each time the new light was tripped the blower to the heater came on, no heat just air. We called the HVAC man and they could not find out what was wrong and they wanted to instal a new board(this spells money). So I noticed the light was onthw next time the light was tripped. We canced the "board" and looked for Cooper lights no the net found them at Amazon and have had no problems since. We have used Cooper outdoor lights since 1999 and have been so pleased with this product you see how much we went through to find Coper lights again. I would not purchase any other light.

MAXASA 80-LED SECURITY LIGHT

by O. Ogbonna from NYC, USA on 2010-07-12
I bought this product for my driveway because I did not want addition cost to run electrical line to the front of the garage. The product has worked very well, the neighbors could not tell that the floodlight was a solar product. The recommendation to anyone wanting to buy this product is to make sure that is adequate sunlight in the area you will be mounting the light. The light is most effective in areas that are not well lighted.

excellent solar light

I am very satisfied with this product: easy to install, easy to set up, works perfectly!

Great motion sensor light!

by W. Harris from on 2010-06-26
I was increasing security around my house and wanted to install solar powered motion sensor lights. I did a Google search and the Maxsa continued to come up. I like to purchase through Amazon because of their reputation. I recieved them very fast, put them out so the battery could charge, installed at locations I chose, and they works perfectly. You're able to set sensitivity of motion sensor and how dark you want it to be before they will come on+ the length of time the light stays on. So far,so good!

CLEVER ITEM

THESE ARE A GREAT WAY TO SAVE SOME ENERGY WITHOUT HIRING AN ELECTRICIAN. BUT DONT PLUG SPACE HEATERS INTO THEM, THEY WILL FRY.

Awesome Motion Light Sensor

by bd3521 from on 2010-08-09
This sensor works great for lighting and determining if their's already enough natural light before activating. Have it in our bedroom next to the night table so when you walk in the room it turns on for several minutes. Have it intentionally obstructed at the side by the night stand so it wont turn on during sleep in bed. Love it!

MOTION DETECTOR FOR LAMPS

by Helen Bookman from Hendersonville, NC United States on 2010-06-02
I KNEW WE NEEDED A MOTION DETECTOR FOR SOME LAMPS IN OUR BASEMENT......BUT I DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME OR ENERGY TO GO SHOPPING FROM STORE TO STORE. LET'S SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE IF I JUST TYPE IN "AMAZON" AND THEN "MOTION DETECTOR". NOTHING TO IT. EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. ARRIVED PROMPTLY. EASY TO INSTALL. EARNS FIVE STARS!

I have bought four, all working fine now

by C. Chu from Pasadena, CA USA on 2010-05-24
I have bought two in 2007, and two more in 2009. All are working fine now. I put one in the porch outside front door, so whenever a guest arrives, light turns on by itself. After the guest is in, a few minutes later it turns off automatically. I put the second one in the powder room, the third in Master bath room, and the fourth in garage. This is great product! Amazon has the best price!

Minimal Load Required

by FL Industrial Engineer from Florida on 2010-04-25
A solid product as long as there is a significant load on the plug. If you do not have a decent amount of current being drawn, the unit will not turn off. I tried to hook this up to a Drinkwell Pet fountain that is basically a low current pump. The unit turns on, but will not turn off. After reading the "fine print" in the literature included with the device, found the minimal load requirement.
